home » news » hymera seafood festival , cruise-in set for saturday News Hymera Seafood Festival , Cruise-in set for Saturday By Wednesday, August 21, 2019 Times file photo: Northeast School Corp. Beta students will be helping at the Hymera Seafood Festival on Saturday. The 37th annual Hymera Seafood Festival will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hymera Ruritan Community Building, located at 118 S. Main St. There, you can enjoy Jonah fish, shrimp, clams, baked beans, coleslaw, apple sauce and your choice of lemonade, tea, water or coffee. Tickets are $10 at the door for adults and $5 for children. The food is provided by Neptune Foods. Pre-sale tickets are also available. The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children. Simply see any Ruritan Club member or stop by Rigg’s Barber Shop, located at 116 S. Main St., Hymera, in order to purchase a pre-sale ticket. This year, in order to make the serving lines more efficient, there will be a separate line for carry-outs. “In the past, we usually have a lot of carry-outs — where people will come in and take several carry-outs and go home or go somewhere else — and this year we’re going to split our serving line up to where we’ll have a carry-out so that those folks can speed through the line,” Ruritan President Ann Case said.

“We’ll also have a regular dine-in area where folks can come in and dine-in in the air conditioning.” The festival will actually kick off with the mile run at 9 a.m., followed by the parade at 10 a.m. Then, Pix-n-Stix will be performing from noon to 3 p.m. The kids’ tractor pull will also begin at noon and the Sullivan County Garden Tractor Pullers will have their tractor pull at 3 p.m. Throughout the day, there will also be several craft vendors and games for the kids. In conjunction with the festival, there will be a car cruise-in. This will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and includes free parking. Antiques, classics, customs, bikes and tractors are all welcome to participate. There will be signs posted on SR 48 across from the Marathon directing those who are partaking in the cruise-in where to park. Both events are being sponsored by the Hymera Ruritan Club, which is a not-for-profit community-based organization. Aside from sponsoring the Hymera Seafood Festival, they host a community Easter egg hunt, donate school supplies throughout the school year, organize a Halloween party and provide a breakfast with Santa during the Christmas celebration. They also plan a meal and provide fruit baskets for senior citizens in the Jackson Township area.

“We couldn’t do any of it whatsoever if it wasn’t for the Beta Club of Northeast School Corp.,” Case said. “The kids in the Beta Club of Northeast School Corp., they come and help us and they’re a big help in providing labor and helping us be able to put on the Seafood Festival.” As a token of appreciation, the Ruritan Club gives them a donation and provides a $500 scholarship for a Sullivan County graduate to put towards college tuition.
