    Out and About: Week of Dec. 12 Dec 12, 2019 at 12:01 AM Thursday Dec. 12 Holiday Buffet - The Career Center’s Culinary Careers students will offer a Holiday Buffet in the White Apron Restaurant. There will be two seatings by reservation, at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The buffet will include holiday apple salad, cranberry-eggnog gelatin salad, chicken Wellington, garlic and herb-crusted pork loin, spinach and cheese stuffed shells, fruited curry rice, polenta with greens and caramelized onions, broccoli tomato casserole, roasted winter vegetables and an assorted dessert table. The price for the buffet is $9.25 per person (tax and gratuity not included). The White Apron Restaurant is located in the Career Center at 1783 State Route 60, Ashland. Celebrity Bartender Event - The United Way of Ashland County will have several celebrity bartenders on hand at Uniontown Brewing Company. All tips generated by these bartenders will go toward the United Way 2020 campaign. Team Archer will bartend from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Team Vanderzyden from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Team Reep from 7:30-8:30 p.m. 1968 Christmas Eve Apollo Mission - Tom McNaull will present a program titled 1968 Christmas Eve Apollo Mission at the Ashland County Historical Society at 6:30 p.

    m. McNaull will discuss the mission and its impact on the Apollo 8 program’s place in history. The mission is most remembered for three things – humankind’s first trip to orbit another heavenly body, the photograph Earthrise and the live TV broadcast on Christmas Eve with the astronauts taking turns reading from the Book of Genesis. Loudonville High School Concert Band Holiday Extravaganza - Enjoy an evening of Trans Siberian Orchestra music performed by the Loudonville High School band at 7 p.m. at Budd Elementary School. The school’s jazz band also will be performing other holiday favorites. The concert is free and open to the public. Friday Dec. 13 A Taste of Christmas - Experience the true meaning of Christmas at Beyond Measure Market’s A Taste of Christmas open house today from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Try seasonal samples, enjoy live Christmas music, shop for holiday gifts and take advantage of exclusive deli sales. A Gift to Remember - This play at Mansfield Playhouse at 95 E. Third St., based on the book Can This Be Christmas?, features strangers beginning to bond in the true spirit of Christmas. Music & Laughter at The Ohio Theatre Christmas Extravaganza - Visit The Ohio Theatre in Loudonville for a Christmas edition of Music & Laughter. Each show will be a little different and all filled with lots of Christmas music and skits. Today’s show at 7 p.m. will feature The Lovedays. Saturday’s 7 p.m. show will include Steven Stanley & Aleksander Swänger. The Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. will feature Grant & Sally. ?Each show will also include The Ohio Theatre Childrens Chorus, Shining Stars Dancers and the Music & Laughter Troupe. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (65 and up), $8 for students and children ages 3-18 and free for children 2 and younger.

    Saturday Dec. 14 Winterfest Craft Fair -South Central Trojan Bands will hold their second annual Winterfest Craft Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the South Central Middle School cafeteria at 3291 Greenwich-Angling Road in Greenwich. Last year, over 75 local artisans and vendors were on hand, and over 500 shoppers attended. Cookie, Candy and Nice as New Book Sale - The Friends of the Loudonville Public Library will have their annual Cookie, Candy and Nice as New Book Sale in the Librarys Cafe from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. or until all food items are gone. A variety of cookies, candy and small sweet treats will be available. Cookies and candy are sold by the pound. Books and media in nice as new condition will be available by donation. Come early for the best selection, and shop for the holidays. Goldberry Roasting Company Christmas Celebration - Goldberry Roasting Company will hold a Christmas celebration at 11 a.m. during its grand opening and ribbon-cutting, with breakfast, brunch, live music, a food truck and giveaways. Wreaths Across America - Ashland will hold its second Wreaths Across America ceremony at noon at the Ashland Cemetery.

    The ceremony is free and open to the public, and volunteers are needed after to help place wreaths on the headstones of veterans. The Wreaths Across America nonprofit organization was started in 1992 to continue and expand upon the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Music on Market - Burning River Brass - Music on Market is a program of The United Methodist Church of Wooster and supported by Main Street Wooster, Inc. and the Wayne Center for the Arts. All events are free with a freewill offering to help cover the costs that accompany this series. Seating is open style and no tickets are required. The doors at the Wooster United Methodist Church open at 12:45 p.m. Since 1996, Burning River Brass performed from Alaska to Taiwan with power and virtuosity, harmonious blend, and consistently stirring performances. The group is composed of 12 brass and percussion players. Nick Gardner - Main Street Books will host a poetry reading and book signing with local writer, Nick Gardner, at 4 p.m. Gardner has just published a book of poems called So Marvelously Far. The book is a collection of 49 poems in the sonnet form, all revolving in some way around addiction and recovery.

    Noel – The Carols of Christmas - Trinity Lutheran Church at 508 Center St. will hold its 35th annual Christmas musical, Noel – The Carols of Christmas, presented as part of the worship services, at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:45 a.m. in Jack’s Place, the newer fellowship hall. The 50-voice Trinity Choir will be accompanied by an orchestra of 30 church, high school and Ashland Symphony musicians, directed by Ron Marenchin, Coordinator of Music Ministries. Holiday Pops - The sounds of the season will come alive as the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and Chorus present the Holiday Pops concert at 8 p.m. at the Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield. Under the direction of Octavio Más-Arocas, the concert features a mix of contemporary and classic holiday repertoire. Tickets are on sale now for this concert at the Renaissance Box Office, via phone at (419) 522-2726 and online at RenTickets.org. A limited number of $50 Family Four Pack tickets as well as $10 student tickets are available for this event only by visiting or calling the Renaissance Box Office.     Sunday Dec. 15 Handels Messiah - Handels Messiah will be performed at Oak Grove Mennonite Church in Smithville at 2:30 p.m. Founded in 1818, the church has a long-standing tradition of singing this work, and this year will perform selections for its 86th rendition. Soloists will include professional musicians Lara Troyer, Hannah Rowlands, Brian Keith Johnson and Kyle Kelvington. Other accomplished musicians will make up the orchestra, led by concertmaster Amy Glick Helmuth. Brian Wiebe from Goshen, Ind., is the guest conductor. The approximate 100-member choir is made up of church members and local musicians. A freewill offering to defray expenses will be taken and a capacity crowd is expected. Home Alone - The Renaissance will show the second film in its Family Film Series, Home Alone, at 3 p.m. The movie is part of the Spherion Staffing Family Film Series. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance at the Renaissance Box Office, at the door, via phone at (419) 522-2726 and online at RenTickets.org. Ashland Historical Society Open House - The public is invited to visit the Ashland Historical Society’s decorated Manor Home, as all the Christmas trees and decorations glow in the evening, from 6-8 p.

Wednesday Dec. 18 Poetry Night at Ashland Roots - Share your written words with like-minded people during the Poetry Night, a BYOB event at 6 p.m. Everyone will sit around and read their poems, or poems that move them, and talk about works and life experiences. This time the homework is to write a haiku. LOOKING AHEAD The Loudonville Community Choir will perform Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, 222 E. Main St., Loudonville. The choir, with 29 members plus an orchestra team, will be conducted by Marilyn D. Kolar, founder and artistic director. Other principals in the performance will be Chris Reiheld, rehearsal accompanist; Rebecca Abbott, organ professor at Mount Vernon Nazarene University and the College of Wooster; and members of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra. Guest soloists will include Debbie Key, soprano; Mary Wake, mezzo soprano; Nicholas DeWalt, tenor, and Albert Donze, baritone.

    The concert is free and open to the public. Donations may be made at the door. Celebrate the final event at Mitchell’s Orchard on Dec. 30 from 6-10 p.m., in honor of Yvonne Granny G Goschinski. There will be food trucks and live music from Tom’s Kitchen Table. Tickets are $20 and include four free drink samples. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
