The performer, who has appeared on “Dancing With the Stars†and “America’s Got Talent,†says her “Warmer in the Winter Christmas Tour†features holiday tunes and more.
Country singer Martina McBride will also focus on holiday music when she brings her “Joy of Christmas Tour†to Wallingford’s Toyota Oakdale Theatre Thursday.
Ditto for the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra , which performs a family concert at Norwalk Concert Hall Saturday, and the Yale Whiffenpoofs, who perform Sunday at The Palace Danbury .
Speaking of the holidays, there’s a brand new show, “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Musical,†onstage at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Friday and Saturday. Writer/lyricist Sara Wordsworth says it’s “really a sweet positive story about a family coming together,†and has some very funny moments, as well.
Meanwhile, a new IMAX film, “Great Barrier Reef,†which explores areas off Australia and Florida, opens Saturday at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk . “Shop Around the Corner,†a classic James Stewart/Margaret Sullavan movie, which tells a story set just before Christmas, will be screened at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown Sunday.
Of course there’s comedy and stage shows, too. Maria Bamford brings her stand-up to College Street Music Hall in New Haven Friday. (She says she’s looking for “relationship advice†and tips on “how to get a raise,†so if you go, bring your best ideas.) Also, a comedy on the pitfalls of self-improvement, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,†is onstage Saturday at Westport Town Hall.
Finally, this weekend brings opportunities to attend events related to this year’s “Miss America 2.0†program, which airs Dec. 19. You may recall there’s no longer a beauty pageant, but 51 women are competing at Mohegan Sun Casino to, as organizers put it, spend a year “advancing a social impact initiative at a national level.†That means a week of activities, including two preliminary nights of competition, starting Sunday.
That’s just a small sample of what’s going on. Check out the slide show to see what else you might enjoy.
