| Fraternity Member Disappears | |

The fraternity held its usual meeting Saturday afternoon and discussed the events. Klein volunteered to surrender his duties as treasurer and resign from the fraternity. He wrote a letter of resignation, told his fraternity brothers he was leaving the university and began packing to return home in Vermont, according to The Buffalo News on Feb. 15.
Klein was last seen at the Uni-Mart located next to the fraternity house, purchasing a 22-oz. bottle of beer. The surveillance camera captured images of his face, severely bruised and swollen, according to The (Olean) Times Herald on Feb. 13.
At 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, Schwartz alerted the authorities that Klein was missing. By 4 a.m., Village of Alfred Police declared a missing-person case.
