Solitaire Games On Your Table - May 2021 - Trace(Rixte)United States Kansas City Kansas - RecommendWelcome to Solitaire Games On Your Table May 2021 Home of Together, We Game Alone Welcome to another month of solo gaming! Im excited to be hosting for 1 Player Guilds Solitaire Games on Your Table (SGOYT) geeklist for May! Its one of my favorite (and one of the most dangerous!) places on the Internet and always makes me excited to try new games. I cant wait to find out what youll have hitting the table this month! Whether youre an old salt or brand new, this is the place to share and comment. Because we might be playing solo, but were in it together! Guidelines Play a solo game, a solo variant, or a multiplayer game solo. Add an entry to this GeekList and tell us about it. Get the most out of the SGOYT Aggregator by using at least one of the following tags: Add the tag to include a short overview. All summaries are recorded, as on this user overview page. Add the tag to rate a game on a scale of 0.5 to 5.0. Only the most recent rating for a game is recorded, as on this ratings page. Its extremely helpful (but not mandatory) to include some and describing the pros and cons of the game you played.

Theyre great visual aids to summarize your post. In other words - be better than ME, peeps! Need a little help with formatting? Check out the Forum Formatting Guide and Tricks of the Geek.About ME! Hi everyone! My name is Trace - or Rixte, Ill answer to either - and Ive been an avid solo gamer for just over two years, once I stumbled across this guild and this list and fell down the rabbit hole of gaming. I live in the Kansas City metro area and Im a copywriter for a niche ad agency. But THERE I have a proofer, so the typos are gonna happen sometimes! I have two Bengal cats (Saffron and Basil) that are ALSO avid gamers, or at least their frequent insertion into my gaming scenarios seems to indicate as much. Sometimes theyre my enemy, sometimes theyre my allies, they always mean Im playing on Challenge Mode. They usually pop up in images of my gameplay and I expect well all see them quite a bit this month. Speaking of challenges ... this Months Theme is: CHALLENGE YOURSELF! So, last year in May, I joined a Game-A-Day-in-May Monthly Challenge - a prompt was given each day, and I had to find and play a game that would fit it. I LOVED it. Id signed up for a few challenges impulsively at the end of 2019 - including a 20x20 I really didnt think Id actually finish but I wanted to stretch myself - but this May challenge is the first one that really brought me joy (and lots of participation in this list!) So I thought that celebrating that on the year anniversary would be fitting.

Of course, the challenge you do is up to you! Maybe you didnt quite manage to knock off a FORGOTTEN GAME off last month, but you still want to? Heres a second chance! Want to play a 5x5 this month? Or a game every day? How about try one of the many solo challenges for individual games - linked in the resource list at the bottom of this post? This month is all about STRETCHING. If youve already signed up for some challenges - personal or a community challenge - Id love to hear an update on how its going as we approach the halfway mark of 2021. Ill be working on my own challenges right alone with you (see what I did there?) Also, I love to cook, so I challenge anyone interested to give me favorite recipes - Im always looking for inspiration! Oh, and naturally there will be bonus points* for pictures with pets, so keep them coming - particularly if theyre upping your game to Challenge Mode! *All points are awarded at Rixtes whim. Points may or may not be recorded. Points not redeemable for cash or prizes. But of course, sticking to this theme isnt required! Whatever you choose to do, Im excited to read about it.Upcoming SGOYT Hosts Keeping the party going will be some great future hosts that I guarantee will be amazing .

Board Game: Mage Knight Board Game [Average Rating:8.10 Overall Rank:26] - - Jordan BrettUnited States Oakland California - So it turns out that this little obscure unknown game that has been considered one of the best (if not THE best) solo game of all time for the last 10 years, and that changed peoples perceptions of what solo gaming could even be, is actually a pretty good game! Who knew? I have now played the full solo conquest scenario twice (and lost twice), and Im excited to play it a third time.

Ive been writing about my experience with Mage Knight on my BGG blog, so I dont want to rehash everything here. Ive had some pretty epic battles and have had success conquering cities, although I havent managed to conquer both cities in the allotted time just yet. My second game was the more interesting one, although I may have gone a little heavy on the deckbuilding, and I noticed that I had way too many cards to get through by the end of the round. I need to be a little more judicious about this next time, or at least to pick up cards that help you churn your deck by throwing away various cards in order to earn mana or bonuses. The thing I didnt realize about MK earlier is that so much of the battling is determined in advance. After playing Dwellings of Eldervale and liking it at first (because it is an interesting game with a neat solo opponent), I realized in the fourth or fifth game that like 50% of the game is rolling a big handful of dice and hoping for the best. I have Robinson Crusoe on preorder and am worried thats going to be the same thing. But here, the only time luck plays a part in a battle is if you choose to fight an unknown enemy in a monster den or spawning ground, or if you fight an enemy that spawns rather than attacking you.

Its very situational, and for the most part, you know what youre getting into before you dive headfirst into battle. Ultimately, fighting a big battle in the late game isnt altogether different from trying to build two casinos in the 4th era of the colonists. You know whats required, but theres a lot of getting your ducks in a row to make it happen. I could see this boring someone to tears, since it basically reduces thematic combat to stereotypically dry eurogame accounting... but I love it. And while Ill always love the colonists, I will say casting an exploding shield spell and directing your catapults to bombard some crazy worm creature is a tad more exciting than figuring out how to move goods around in a storage hall so that you have enough to pay a bunch of brcks, planks, and iron to build two nondescript chits that say Casino on them. Also, playing Mage Knight late at night and having to pause to go pick up your wife from work does yield some interesting conversations... - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. I held up, thinking it probably was not something that would be of interest to you guys. I played 2 games back to back today. The first score was promising: 61! I could get the biscuit and 6 of the same saffron. Good. Usually, it means a weaker second game with the remainder of the deck. Well, not this time. This time, I also got the biscuit plus six of a kind (tarragon). Total score 59. If I am not mistaken... thats the holy graal of this game: together, both games scored me 120 points, which is over 114! Feels good. Now, I still am waiting for my pocket version of this game. It left the USA about a week ago, it should not be that far from home anymore. - - Edited Sun May 16, 2021 1:37 pmPosted Sun May 16, 2021 12:43 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. D. 30 [Average Rating:6.75 Overall Rank:7138] - - JW van der Meulen(jwml)Netherlands Almerewww.solitairetimes.net - Here we are again, calling in from a parallel universe: May 13 is Ascension Day. A.D. 30 is a ten year old solitaire game by Tom Decker (Disaster on K2, Circus Train), published by Victory Point Games. I traded for it last month to play at Easter. In the game you walk with Jesus, from his baptism to his entry in Jerusalem. Goal of the game is to recruit all Apostles and have Jesus end up with Judas and at least one Leader (like Pilate or Herod) at the same time in Jerusalem. That way the birth of a new world religion is assured. There are some 14 different outcomes though. If you dont manage to get everything just right, followers may misunderstand His teachings and rebel against Rome, or Christianity may end as just a minor religion in certain parts of the world. Every turn you draw an event card, that will have political and religious Leaders take notice (they will move closer to Jerusalem - if they stay there the game ends). The 25 event cards include appropriate inspirational scripture. You can play all events in order, or make the game a little harder (and more varied) and shuffle them.

I think its a perfect game to play once in a while, or on special occasions. Three, four times in a row, then back on the shelf for a while. I like the game for its unusual theme, that it takes seriously. It aims to teach and entertain, and to my opinion it succeeds. You have to manage a lot of things to arrive at the Biblical outcome, so youll be really engaged for 20 minutes. Use the available actions to teach, to perform a miracle, or to wander? Does a Leader need to be kept back, or can you take risks a little longer? As with a lot of these old VPG games, the dice rolls need to be in your favour, but theres a neat modifier mechanism that really helps with your strategy. Any time you fail a die roll, you get a +1 Die Roll Modifier marker. If you fail a roll again (this can be on another action), you change it to its Auto Success side for your next action. So youll never be unlucky all game long. Very nice VPG game to play once in a while 3.5 Rixtes daily challenges (picked another celebration though) brought my plays of this game up to 5 (from 4) - - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 3:21 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.

I lost badly to the Bishop last time so chose the Snake this time. I dont know if I had better cards come up or if I just played better but I strangled the snake quite effectively so will have to have another go at bashing the Bishop at some point . Even without the expansions I think there is a lot of solo re-playability in the base game. Winning felt like it was dependent on what cards were available to buy. Summary: I got a card early on that let me get a free power card from the bottom of the power deck thus always giving me power cards in my deck. I also got a card they gave me 8 influence and another that corrupted (they lost influence) my AI opponent. - - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 4:02 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. Today is May 16 is International Pickle Day.

Play a game with some zing! I think powering engines via generators is some zing... Yes, I figured it would be fitting to use my copper & aluminum dice for this game.... Nice little thinker from the big bunch of games from earlier... Still have several to print & play... Basically, you roll six d6, and then you can combine two of them so you record 5 values. The combined number cant be above 7... You then build paths from generators to the engine. Four short paths followed by four long paths. Take a bit of planning since there are eight scoring methods. Its not specified, but I played that you use each method only once, but can use them in any order... You get bonuses for numbers in specific boxes. There are a couple of dice modifiers you can use- I used all of them in this game. I also nailed several of the bonuses. According to a table with the game, 160 is the top level- not the highest score, just the top of three levels. I hit 162. Must be the dice.... In other news, I hate it when this happens...Spoiler (click to reveal) Fridge sprung a leak. Board Game: 1862: Railway Mania in the Eastern Counties [Average Rating:8.36 Overall Rank:1287] - - Stefan Schneider(gentle)Germany Stockstadtalways injured... - I still have this on my table and dont want to put it away. Ive been playing it two more times now since my last entry. I actually though I did really, really well in my first game, scoring nearly 10000 pounds, this would have made the apprentice level. It was only at the end, when I couldnt believe my luck (not going to say skill here) that I saw my mistake. London was blocked! I had been running L&H all the way from the north into London. Apart from that mistake, which definitely cost me lots of money, I made a few smaller ones. So not really counting this play, but it felt really good. I purchased two warranties for one of my D trains and by not paying dividends, I managed to time it exactly right for the company to buy the new train just as the old one rusted. That was nice. Then, part proud and part devastated, I decided to do something nice for my cousin.

She had a baby about a month ago and her friend is working late shifts at the moment, so I asked if she wanted me to come over and cook dinner for her, so she could relax a bit. I made Paella. Easy to make, always tastes great and it usually looks pretty good, too. Chicken and Chorizo Paella: Today, I tried the game one more time. I just love how it just pulls me in completely. This time, I was making sure not to miss anything and for sure, my score was a lot... lets call it more realistic. Still, 6000 pounds and change. Not too bad and I know I could have made more money, but I only had three shares in my hightest rated company and just couldnt get more. They must have been right at the bottom of the deck. And I completely mismanaged my last company. Doesnt sound good but I still feel proud that I know I did it wrong and what I might have tried instead. So, yes. Progress. And frustration. But mostly fun. By the way, Im counting my play yesterday for Astronomy day. Because my chances of winning without making mistakes surely are astronomical. edit: played it just one more time before most definitely putting it away for a time. And I did it! 9235 I started five companies and it actually really helped that among the first three companies I started, two were using local trains.

Im pretty sure that helped a lot. I like local companies, having two of them work on the same network was fantastic. Okay, Im exhausted and done with this game for a while now. I hope. - - Edited Mon May 17, 2021 8:48 pmPosted Sun May 16, 2021 4:36 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. Perhapss it was pure luck. Perhaps it was that I finally opened up the other cards and used Captain Marvel and Krull. Perhaps I dont completely comprehend the rules still...which is sadly true. Each time I decided to give this a go, I watch one of those rules videos...learn MarvChamp in 3 min. They talk so fast that I loose interest halfway thru and think, how hard can this game be? And I still dont know if my hero can take his own action and another cards action.

Difficult choices abound in this little game about winning the Village Green of the Year competition. Make yourself a 3x3 grid of cards while following the placement rules, each card placed must match either the color of type of the flower next to it. Score points based on the award cards placed in the vertical rows at setup and horizontal rows during the game. Again, easy to play but lots of difficult choices. Super fun in under 30 minutes. My first play I scored 21 points which was good enough for an Honourable Mention. Better luck next time Lower Aynesmore. Yo, Ill tell you what I want, what I really, really want! Get in my landship and blow up some mechs.

I think Pocket Landship: Free Trial Version was the first game I ever played 100 times. When I got this Kickstarter version, I started logging those plays separately. It got stuck at 22. Time to get the number of plays above 25 at least. Its been a year since I went through the campaign thats printed in the rulebook. Its a nice way to see all the cards and actions. Its a year ago that Ive played this game period. Somehow getting an expanded version made it harder to get it to the table. So many possibilities. Anyway. Ive missed playing it. Bring it on. There are six scenarios, and you score less points every extra play it takes to beat one of them. The 5th scenario kind of did me in. Luckily you always get 1 point for a scenario, even if it takes you all afternoon. I ended up with 16 points out of 21, which was good enough for a celebratory cup of coffee. All clear! More options and actions in my favourite dice game. 4.25 Rixtes daily challenges the campaign brought my plays of this game up to 25 (well, actually 33) from 22. - - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 6:46 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.

Instead of playing two handed solo like my previous plays, in SHIELD mode you choose three characters and shuffle their decks together. Draw five cards into your hand and then you can play out any three cards you like. I kind of like it as it gives you more options. I played with the only three characters I had yet to try, Black Widow, Iron Man and Hulk. My little band of heroes faced of against the menacing Red Skull. Things quickly got out of control and the threat level track did us in. The game...went not so well. 8 cards left on insane for the loss. Got stuck two times. It was also my 50th logged FUSE game, so theres that. --- Fuse chain (started 11.5.21): - - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 7:08 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site.

Board Game: Jump Drive [Average Rating:7.01 Overall Rank:1014] - - JW van der Meulen(jwml)Netherlands Almerewww.solitairetimes.net - May 15 is Astronomy Day. GET BACK IN SPACE, PEOPLE!! Also for those of you who hate space, its Bring Flowers to Someone Day. Its also my fathers birthday. And yes, I sent him flowers. Couldnt bring them. He lives in another town and Ill have to wait until were both vaccinated. For me, this will take a while. He probably already is, but he didnt remember. He has dementia. Most of our phone call was about the flowers. It took him some time to figure out who had sent them, then who was talking to him. But he really liked them. He described them a few times. And I think he enjoyed the phone call. As for going back in space, I played Jump Drive. I lose most of my sessions, but I took a picture when I thought I could start Epyos Basic Campaign. Good military victory. Of course I lost the next few ones again. I like Jump Drive for a quick fix of looking at the blue Race-family victory point chips. I only play Race for the Galaxy online with friends these days, and I need to see the physical ones regularly.

They trigger a happy part in my brain. I also like Jump Drive because of the crazy VP explosion you can have in your last round. Playing Epyos solo campaigns variant is great. 3.75 Rixtes daily challenges I should play a few more this week, then I have logged 50 plays. I like round numbers. - - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 7:20 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. Board Game: Circadians: First Light [Average Rating:7.75 Overall Rank:996] - - Trace(Rixte)United States Kansas City KansasPatron Badge for 2019 through 2020 - Quote:May 15 is Astronomy Day. GET BACK IN SPACE, PEOPLE!! Also for those of you who hate space, its Bring Flowers to Someone Day - so play a game with flowers. Space flowers.Well, I am taking advantage of my own loophole of play the prompts anytime during the week because I played this TODAY, not yesterday (yesterday I saw Actual Humans. It was weird and wonderful). Its also why after this post its time to do some geeklist catch up! But obviously this was not a prompt I was going to SKIP. I went with my first play of Circadians: First Light because: 1. It is in space (counts for Astronomy Day) 2. You have farms (counts for the Challenge Guilds May challenge and ... most importantly of all ... IT HAS SPACE FLOWERS Im standing firmly on the belief that Kelp is space flowers. Naturally, I started by accidentally setting up my first game with every single playerboard on the wrong side. Fortunately, Basil caught my error before I actually got started.

I flipped everything and got started for real. This game takes up a LOT of table space. It was a squeaker to get it all in there. I decided to play as Akira Hope, since every first play needs a little Hope And I played against the easiest AI. Which isnt to say she isnt also a jerk. At the beginning of each round, you flip over an event card that dicatates the special conditions of the round. Green ones mean good things are possible, red things mean bad things can happen. A few rounds in, I flipped over this ... And I was SUPER excited because normally laboratory is hard to get to - it requires spending two dice that have the same face showing ... and my dice pool never got super big. And I really WANTED a farm (thats what you get at the lab) because Id just completed ... Extra end game points for labs! So naturally the AI went and blocked me! (ALthough thinking back, Im not sure if it would? Generally the AI blocks that space, it does because you cant use two dice if its already taken up one of the two spots. Maybe it would have been legal. Hmm. I played like it wasnt though, Ill have to check. I went to the Foundry instead so it wasnt a total loss) Actually that brings me to the one huge issue with this game - the rulebook is TERRIBLE.

Really specific examples that make you feel like you only understand that one example and no other iterations. The Solo stuff is particlarly bad but honestly, even the regular multiplayer rules had me fliping back and forth not sure if I was doing things correctly. I actually did win (I played against the easiest AI though) by a pretty decent amount I won 47 to 35 and feel like I got the actual flow right but not the nitty-gritty. I am going to need to dive into the forums and see what playthroughs I can find online to see if I made some sort of glaring error! Other than the terrible rulebook and feeling at space-sea because of it, I liked all the choices and options that seem available! ETA...oh yes, so far I haven’t seen any play errors but I definitely messed up scoring! - 322.00 - Edited Mon May 17, 2021 1:41 amPosted Sun May 16, 2021 9:02 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. Board Game: Mutants [Average Rating:7.46 Overall Rank:4085] - - Nathan krueger(aitfigaro)United States Oshkosh WisconsinPatron Badge for 2019 through 2020 - My Mutants tried furiously to come up with enough zingers to take down the Singularity boss.

Two tries, two fails, with the second getting the boss down to ten points. Im getting the hang of the strategy and spent my two tries today using one of the suggested decks. Right now it feels like if I had one more round, I could take the boos out. Gottta get more damage early in the game and work things out so I can destroy some of the bosss cards. Interesting variation on the deck builder with a nice small footprint Lots of Mutants in the base set to create lots of variability. I may want to expansions I didnt like the rulebook and Im still unclear on a few rules. - 180.01 - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 9:07 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. Board Game: Troyes Dice [Average Rating:7.42 Overall Rank:1903] - - Ariel Lo(Gilnean)United States Richmond CaliforniaTogether, we game alone.Wolves have no kings.Patron Badge for 2020 - For International Pickle Day, were playing a game with some zing! Id say Troyes Dice is a game with a fair amount of zing, and in the challenge scenario were attempting, the denizens of Troyes are in a bit of a pickle as they scramble to repair the cathedral in preparation for an upcoming royal visit.

Ill admit, Ive been getting a bit lazy with the actual writing part of this roll-and-write I blame the absurdly chilly weather hitting the part of the Bay Area where I live, as I was curled up under some blankets on the couch for this session. I guess cold fingers arent very conducive towards drawing the outlines of little medieval buildings? Still, it resulted in my best score yet: 60, which actually beats two of the best scores from the designers themselves! - 16 - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 9:57 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site. Board Game: Welcome to Dino World [Average Rating:6.94 Overall Rank:2422] - - Monica Elida Forssell(Elida)Norway SandnesTake your marks!Patron Badge for 2016 through 2020 - If I caught on correctly then I beat Autobot today 111 to 87!! I took some time reading through the rules, and making sure I caught it all. There`s still some stuff to get a grip of. During the game I managed I managed to avoid malfunction, all until the final two rounds.... One of them I fixed by my Z card. As I worked on the pens, I attempted as best as I could to make them well enough, and I managed to strew in some Facilities. Autobot suffered a bit from the dice I left for him, so I got many of the bonus point cards before he was even close to them. Sweet!! I put up a normal mode, without knowing, but going for Tame Autobot end game voluntarily.

I didn`t even want to check what had happened if he was on the next level... Maybe next time, though, as I understand enough of the game to force myself a bit more...after a few more Tame plays... It didn`t work out too well. I think I rushed it too much... First of all, I let Sigurd take over Oyster licenses and boats left and right. And also I made some bad choices. Maybe because it`s past 11 in the evening here... Well, it had to end badly, with me scoring 42VP on this game. On a high note, though, I only need one more play on this game to finish 10 plays this year! And I am getting really close to having 100 plays done on my two 10x10 Challenge lists.

Now to finish the 100 other goals I have of the year - 19 - Posted Sun May 16, 2021 10:59 pmSubscribeComment Die Rolls - [+] Dice rolls Loading... | Locked Hide Show Unlock Lock Comment » {{data.config.endpage}} {{error.message}} - - - [ShowHide] Thank you for helping us moderate the site.
