How Did Jabari Banks, a newcomer, Become the New Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Jabari Banks, the next Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, who is he? In the next Peacock Originals relaunch, Bel-Air, Jabari has been cast as the successor to Will Smith’s iconic TV role. Before the 2022 debut of Bel-Air, we wanted to understand more about Jabari. Did we also mention that Jabari attended college in West Philadelphia and has family there? We think he’s off to a terrific start in terms of character realism! Before Bel-Air, did Jabari appear in any other films? It’s incredible that Jabari was able to land such a desired job with no prior acting experience. In his casting announcement video, Jabari explained that it was his father who learned about the Bel-Air auditions and urged him to try out for the part. Will Smith appeared to be overjoyed by Jabari’s casting and stated that he was looking forward to assisting Jabari on his Bel-Air trip as well as his acting career in the future. The original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had a tremendous impact on Jabari’s life, and he was honored to be cast as Will in the revival, he said in the same casting announcement video. Peacock published a short teaser for Bel-Air in November of 2021, which featured Will Smith providing a more dramatic voiceover of the original show’s famed opening rhyme.

For the first time, Jabari is seen in character as Will in the teaser. At the end of the teaser clip, there’s a nice homage to Will’s sideways baseball cap. Jabari graduated from the University of the Arts in Center City, Philadelphia, with a degree in musical theater, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Justin Luján, the acting program director at the University of the Arts, said nothing but good things about Jabari in the same report. Jabari was described by Justin as a “jack of all trades” who could act, dance, sing, rap, and play basketball. It’s no surprise that Jabari was cast as the new Will! “People always told me I resembled Will and his enthusiasm growing up,” Jabari told Entertainment Weekly. ‘This isn’t Will Smith, superstar,’ they remarked when I answered the phone. That was not their intention. So it took me a couple of weeks to realize that they chose me because of who I am and what I do. I was just… Brinkwire in a nutshell.
