Home / College Guide / Anti-War Veterans Ready to Dialog with Your Class Spring 2022
Posted on Sunday, January 16 @ 00:00:05 PST
    College

We Are Not Your Soldiers is prepared for remote visits to your class this January through June 2022 without charging any fee to your school. Our presenters, all veterans, dialog with students, sharing their experiences and how they were affected by their time in the U.S. military as well as the effects on the people in the countries under attack. We work with the middle/high school teacher or college professor to plan the presentation to align with curricular needs and provide resources as needed. Each speaker has his or her unique story and own style of presentation. We provide a perspective that is not often available to students who are encouraged to ask questions, engage in critical thinking and do their own research. Discussion on crucial issues is important as young people develop ways to reach informed opinion. A frequent student response after a visit, as indicated on our evaluation forms or in notes or essays is how honest the veterans were in speaking about what they had gone through and how willing to be open about their vulnerabilities. We are beginning to schedule visits now so please be in touch to plan for your school. Email or give us a call at 646-807-3259. Find out more about Joe Urgo, John Burns , Joy Damiani, Lyle Rubin, Miles Megaciph , Rosa del Duca and Will Griffin by clicking on each name.

A NYC middle school student commented in May 2021: “…I loved how open and honest you were even when talking about such a sensitive topic, and how you both shared and showed us that we should be able to talk and have our own opinions as well. I am excited to further learn about war and form even more of my own opinions. Once again, thank you for sharing your experience and starting off our unit.” A NYC high school teacher wrote in March 2021: Thank you so much for coming to our classes. I learned so much and had a very busy weekend trying to further educate myself. I imagine that it is really draining to speak about your experiences and I appreciate your honesty and openness. The students were so moved by your work.”
