FLORENCE, Ala. ( WAFF ) - The University of North Alabama’s nursing program is graduating its first class for Doctorates in Nursing. Four students were the very first in the program to receive their Doctorate in Nursing at the Andersen College of Nursing and Health Professions. Those students were Donna Grisham, Brad Hardemon, Caitlin Weathers and Charman Harper. They all said they were excited to further their careers because they, in turn, mostly hold teaching positions. “So, I don’t know if I’ve decided what I want to be when I grow up but I will be using my DNP degree to help my students in the academic setting as well as my patients as a nurse practitioner,” Donna Grisham said. “So I’m really looking forward to combining those two degrees.” The program can be done in a year and a half for a full-time student. Brad Hardemon said he liked attending UNA so much that he kept bugging them every few months to see when they would get the doctorate program up and running. “It was just the best experience of my life,” Hardemon said. “I felt it brought real value to my career. I work with veterans and it wasn’t just classwork to be doing classwork. It really was present in my daily practice.

So it was a no brainer to return for the DNP program.” The program will be accepting more students to join the program that starts in January.
