PHILADELPHIA — A.J. Brown isn’t apologizing for his latest comments.
Not only that, but the Philadelphia Eagles ’ star wide receiver said “if you have eyes” you would understand why he’s frustrated, too.
A day after the Eagles improved to 7-2 overall with a 10-7 win on Monday over the Green Bay Packers, Brown went on a video game live stream and was asked if he’s doing well.
“No. Where have you been?” Brown told video gamer Janky Rondo. “Family’s good. Everything else, no. ... It’s a s***-show. ... You on some, ‘How you been?’ Struggling, brother.”
Brown later added: “If you got me on fantasy, get rid of me.”
It’s been a frustrating season individually for Brown, who has 408 yards and three touchdowns on 31 catches in eight games. His 51 receiving yards per game is currently a career low. On Monday night at Lambeau Field, Brown had two catches for 13 yards on three targets.
But speaking with reporters on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex, Brown wanted to make it clear that his “s***-show” comments weren’t about his stats.
“It’s not just solely about my situation,” Brown said. “Obviously, I want to win, too. I think we’re really focused on winning and doing our job.
But we can’t just keep slapping the band-aid over it with the defense doing their job and getting us out of trouble. At what point are we going to pick up our slack as an offense? That’s what I’m getting at.
“It’s not about not caring about winning, or I care about stats. No. It’s been week after week sometimes where we’re not contributing or doing our job on offense. You can’t expect to keep slapping a band-aid on that and expect to win late in the year. It’s not going to f happen.”
Brown added that this year’s offense, which has scored 24 points or less in five of nine games, isn’t the same as last year’s group that won Super Bowl LIX.
“Last year was what it was. Thank you for the ring. But it’s a new season,” Brown said. “They adapted, and we have to adapt. We have to continue to get better and find new ways. That’s where the frustration comes in. It’s not about winning; I want to win. I want to help contribute, as well, and do our thing on offense, as well. I think that’s fair.”
Asked about the circumstances of his comments — speaking about his frustrations on a video game live stream — Brown said he was “just talking to my friend.
”
“I’m not apologizing for that,” Brown said. “Because if you have eyes, you can see (why he’s frustrated). It’s not that I’m throwing anybody under the bus. I’m literally trying to laugh through this s***. This s*** is tough. ... It is what it is.”
