Yakima Valley College to host culture fair focusing on diverse perspectives
YAKIMA, Wash. — Yakima Valley College is set to host its second annual Culture Fair as part of its Diversity Series, offering a platform to explore diverse perspectives on everyday topics. The event, free for all attendees, will feature activities such as a silent disco, presentations, and complimentary food.
Tenya Moravec, one of the lead planners, emphasized the events goal of expanding the understanding of diversity. That goal is also expanding the idea and the definition that folks might have around diversity, Moravec said. I think a lot of times what happens is folks will think diversity and think racial or cultural diversity, but theres so much intersection that happens. Theres so many different parts of our community this case this year, were really focusing on not just the ASL deaf, hard of hearing, but also our disabled community and our neurodivergent.
Separate fairs will be held at each campus, with Grandviews event on Feb. 4 and Yakimas on Feb. 5, both from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
