Home / College Guide / Column: Farrakhan Spews Anti-American Views |
Posted on Thursday, July 11 @ 02:33:36 PDT |
Well, while Farrakhan may consider the sudden deaths of 2,800 innocent people more akin to a tea party, I think it would qualify as an act of terror. But let's hear more.
"Those who want war must come before the American people to state their reasons for such and allow scholars and scientists who disagree with the administration position to testify before the Congress. Let the American people hear both sides of this."
Perhaps King Louis isn't familiar with the U.S. Constitution, but the President and his administration have no ability to declare war. A war declaration, of course, must be voted on by Congress.
Perhaps even more foolish than Farrakhan are the Iraqi representatives he spoke to on his trip (if the comments he attributed to them are accurate). According to the man, Iraqi leaders are foolishly arrogant that their forces would triumph in another war with the United States: "They feel that nothing and no one will be able to destroy Iraq. It's been here for 5,000 years."
Apparently world history isn't the forte of Louis or Iraqi leaders. An independent Iraq wasn't established until 1927, after the British removed its protectorate status.
Under the reign of Saddam Hussein, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Kurds have died of starvation, malnutrition and war.
The Bush administration is justified in calling for his ouster; while Hussein remains in office, he is a constant threat to the stability of the region. It's too bad Farrakhan's myopic anti-American stance has skewed his vision to the point where he can't recognize the real facts.
